Let’s Taste – Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz 2004

I’ve been sitting on this second bottle for a few years now, and thought it was about time to open it. The Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz has one of the best modern pedigrees for shiraz in Australia, and it is richly deserved, as it is one of the most consistent and age-able. Former guest of the podcast Dan Buckle was the winemaker when this 2004 vintage was made, and I was excited to see how it was travelling. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Let’s Taste – Tahbilk Red Wines February 2017

There is a soft spot in my vinous heart for Tahbilk, due in some part for the historical significance of the winery, and also the fact that CEO and owner Alister Purbrick was a guest on The Vincast wine podcast. Let’s Taste – Billy Button White Wines December 2016

I’ve followed Jo Marsh and her Billy Button Wines for some time, mostly as they are focused on my beloved Italian grape varieties. After finally meeting Jo at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show late last year, I was thrilled to finally be able to open some bottles here on the IntrepidWino YouTube channel. Let’s Taste – Alex Russell Wines Alejandro Graciano 2016

My first video upload for 2017 was in fact recorded last year, and it was one of the wines from Alex Russell Wines. Fruit for this wine was grown by Ricca Terra Farms in the Riverland region of South Australia, and it’s part of a range that focuses on emerging varieties from Italy and Spain. I was impressed with other wines I tasted from the range back at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in November, and was keen to share my impressions of this wine on the channel. Let’s Taste – Clonakilla Riesling 2004

For a long time the Intrepid Cellar was made up mostly of wines sourced from trawling the Langtons auctions. Back in those days I was educating my palate on classic Australian wines, and preferably ones with some age. One style I was particularly interested in was aged riesling. Clonakilla is a producer from the Canberra District of New South Wales famous for its Shiraz Viognier, but it was the more accessible Riesling I was interested in when I bought it. Here are my impressions of the 2004 vintage from my cellar, with some help from Milly our dog. Let’s Taste – Moss Wood Reds December 2016

On the second of two parts looking at Moss Wood wines, I taste four of their red wines. The Margaret River region is famous for it’s red wines made from Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and three of the four wines in this tasting are dominated by these grapes. The fourth is made from a well-known grape variety, that is not very common in this region; pinot noir.

The Vincast with Fiona Donald from Seppeltsfield

As a teenager, Fiona Donald sent a letter to Len Evans after reading an article he wrote, asking him how one might enter the wine industry. He encouraged her to study to be a winemaker at the best place in the country at the time; Roseworthy College. Since graduating in 1990 Fiona has worked for some of Australia’s most important wine companies in many of Australia’s finest regions. Her work since 2009 as the chief winemaker of Seppeltsfield has brought her the most joy and the most acclaim, and has revitalised one of the country’s most historic wineries.

They were generous enough to send me some samples, which I will taste across two editions of Let’s Taste. I was so thrilled to recently find out that one of my former colleagues from my days in the cellar door at Domaine Chandon Australia, has launched a wine brand with their partner! Camille & Chris have managed to source some outstanding Yarra Valley fruit to craft their first Fetherston vintage from, and I was excited to taste the wines and share my impressions.
