Nine months after opening the 2017 vintage of the Yalumba ‘The Y Series’ white and rosé wines, I’m looking at the 2018 vintages. Similar to the 2017 wines there are some that stand out over the others, let me know what you think in the comments below!

Let’s Taste – Morris Classic Liqueur Topaque NV

The Morris Winery in the Northern Victorian region of Rutherglen has a significant amount of history, and was an important contributor to the success of Australian wines in the past, particularly in the context of fortified wines. These incredible gems take serious skill and patience to come together, and are woefully unappreciated by wine consumers these days. I was privileged to have an opportunity to taste the Classic Topaque when Casella Family Brands sent me a sample, let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below.

Wine tasted;
Morris Classic Liqueur Topaque NV – RRP $25.00 (375ml)

Let’s Taste – Heartland ‘Foreign Correspondent’ 2018

I’m always grateful to receive samples from Heartland Wines from the #LanghorneCreek region, as much as I appreciate the opportunity to look at alternative varieties and interesting blends. The #ForeignCorrespondent 2018 encompasses all three of these things, being a blend of Dolcetto and Lagrein, two varieties you are highly unlikely to see together in Italy being that they are from different regions. Here are my impressions of this wine, let me know what your thoughts are, or if you’ve seen these varieties together before!

Wine tasted;
Heartland ‘Foreign Correspondent’ Dolcetto Lagrein 2018 – RRP $25.00

Let’s Taste – Peter Lehmann ‘The Barossan’ 2016

Back in my wine retail days I used to sell a fair amount of Peter Lehmann Wines, being both a reliable and very affordable brand. Since that time they have become part of the Casella Family Brands company joining other important and historic brands, and the winery has gone from strength to strength. On this edition I taste ‘The Barossan’ Shiraz 2016 and I’m interested to hear what you think in the comments below!

Wine tasted;
Peter Lehmann ‘The Barossan’ Shiraz 2016 – RRP $25.00

Let’s Taste – Peter Lehmann ‘Wigan’ Riesling 2012 & ‘Margaret’ Semillon 2011

Peter Lehmann started his own winery in 1979 after experience at iconic and historic Barossa estates, Yalumba and Saltram Estate . He started the business off the back of growers having their contracts to supply fruit cancelled, and a legend was born. Since 2013 the business has been owned by Riverina-based Casella Family Brands who submitted these and other wines for me to taste.

Wines tasted;
Peter Lehmann ‘Wigan’ Riesling 2011 – RRP $34.95
Peter Lehmann ‘Margaret’ Semillon 2011 – RRP $34.95

Let’s Taste – Topper’s Mountain ‘Bricolage Rouge’ & Wild Ferment Nebbiolo 2014

Completing a series looking at new releases from Topper’s Mountain are two reds that are quite intriguing. I’m excited to look at Topper’s Mountain wines for a number of regions. Firstly they are from a wine region that you don’t see very often. Secondly they are working with some very interesting alternative varieties. Thirdly they are making the wines in sometimes experimental ways, and blending varieties that don’t often get blended together. Let me know what you think of my impressions of these wines below, and please get in contact if you’d like to submit samples.

Wines tasted;
Topper’s Mountain ‘Bricolage Rouge’ 2014 – RRP $30.00

Let’s Taste – Topper’s Mountain Wild Ferment Petit Manseng

Petit Manseng is a grape variety that originates in South-West France and is commonly used to make a late harvest sweet wine. The vine has been in Australia for the better part of 40 years, arriving long before many of the new alternative varieties were here. Topper’s Mountain Wines produce one of the more interesting dry Petit Manseng wines, and on this edition of Let’s Taste I look at the 2016 vintage. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Wine tasted;
Topper’s Mountain Wild Ferment Petit Manseng 2016 – LUC $35.00

Let’s Taste – Topper’s Mountain Gewürztraminer 2016 wines

I always appreciate a winery that supports what I do and continues to send me samples to open on camera. Topper’s Mountain Wines is one of these wineries; they have continued to send me bottles since I was the Fellow for the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in 2016. Gewürztraminer is an important grape for Topper’s Mountain, as they make several different varietal wines with it. Here are two from the 2016 vintage, let me know what you think in the comments below.

Wines tasted;
Topper’s Mountain Gewürztraminer 2016 – LUC $35.00
Topper’s Mountain Barrel Ferment Gewürztraminer 2016 – LUC $35.00
