I was thrilled to sit down with Sierra Reed Milne for Episode 101 of my wine podcast, The Vincast! Originally from California, Sierra has had an incredible and diverse journey that has led her to making her own wines her in Australia. She gave me a bottle of one of her already sold out Reed Wines from the 2015 vintage, and I thought I would share my impressions here on the IntrepidWino YouTube channel, let me know what you think! Stay tuned for Episode 101 of The Vincast with Sierra!
While visiting my new favourite local wine retailer Cult of the Vine, I picked up a bottle of Australian wine to try. The Manon wines are part of the exciting movement for very low intervention winemaking, many of which come from the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. Let me know what you thought of my impressions, if you agreed with me or not, in the comments below.
In the latter half of the 19th Century, there were a number of very important arrivals into the Yarra Valley region, less than 100km east of Melbourne, who happened to be Swiss. These were important viticulturists who made a name for Australian wine in Paris and London, winning hearts, palates and medals. One of these pioneering Swiss families was the de Purys, who established Yeringberg in the area now known as Coldstream. My guest on this episode is Guill de Pury, the third-generation owner responsible for reviving the wine growing on the property at the end of the 1960s. He shared the important history of the family, the region, the farm and his own journey of (re)discovery.
A week away at the snow with my Dad requires some serious wines, so I took up two bottles of the iconic Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon from my cellar. I thought it might be interesting to open them both at the same time, and see how such an important red wine in the Margaret River develops, and how vintage conditions play a big part in that ageing process. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
I’m always thrilled to receive samples, particularly from Tash at d’Arenberg Wines in McLaren Vale. On this edition I taste not one but FOUR different sweet wines made by Chester, fruit coming from either McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills or both. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
The final in a series looking at wines from Yalumba thanks to a box of samples sent by Pippa Merrett from Hill-Smith Family Vineyards. The Scribbler is a classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and is a great wine for the price. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Another in a series of Yalumba Let’s Taste videos, this time some incredible white wines from Yalumba Family Vignerons in the Barossa. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
The second in a series of Yalumba wine tastings, this time the Patchwork Shiraz 2014, which is named as such because it is a blend of different parts of the Barossa Valley region. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and thanks for watching!
To celebrate my 34th birthday, I opened up something with a bit of age from the cellar. Cullen are one of the most important producers in Margaret River – in Western Australia for that matter – and their crown jewel is the Diana Madeline Cabernet Sauvignon. This 1998 vintage was before it was officially given it’s name. It’s been in the cellar for a while, so I was glad to have the chance to drink it. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
The first in a series of Yalumba episodes of Let’s Taste, thanks to a lovely box of samples sent by Pippa from Hill-Smith Family Vineyards. This episode focuses on the Galway Vintage range, particularly on the Shiraz and Malbec wines. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and don’t forget to subscribe!
