The final in a series looking at wines from Yalumba thanks to a box of samples sent by Pippa Merrett from Hill-Smith Family Vineyards. The Scribbler is a classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and is a great wine for the price. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Yalumba The Scribbler 2013
Discovered your site while going through Alder Yarrow’s wine blog archives and he mentions your chance meeting in Austria. Watching the Yalumba Scribbler review reminds me of the Gary Vaynerchuk (Wine Library) internet (U.S.) shows that I watched for years. Anyhow, it was painful watching the end of your review–after all the positives you identified for the Scribbler you seemed to want to temper your comments with some negatives but you couldn’t bring yourself to do it–even your voice changed. That is why Robert Parker refused to accept free wine samples–it puts you in an impossible conflict between your audience and the one who gave you a gift. Giving the wine a rating might eliminate some of the problem (or just stop accepting samples).

Hi Bruce, thanks so much for watching and your comments, you make some very valid points, and I have been thinking about how to tweak the way I do my videos so there is more transparency and relate-ability. I’m not a fan of scoring wines because context makes such a big difference, and the experience changes with food and other people. But perhaps there is some compromise I can find. Thanks for your support!
